Dialing Japan

The other type of code is Japan National Direct Dialing prefix (or NDD). It is used only when dialing to a destination within the Japan. Japan NDD code is only used as long distance dialing within the Japan. Do not use Japan National Direct Dialing prefix when dialing from outside Japan into Japan.

For Japan long distance, you have to dial Japan National Direct Dialing prefix (or NDD), City/ Area Code, and then the subscriber telephone number respectively as:

+81 (Japan National Direct Dialing prefix code) + City Area Code + Number you wish to call.

On the other hand, International Dialing Japan Code or Japan International Direct Dialing prefix (or IDD) is used when dialing from the Japan to outside Japan. Do not use Japan IDD code when dialing within Japan for long distance.

On the other hand, when dialing to Japan from outside Japan, a Japan Country Code is used . Japan Country Code however is not used when dialing within Japan.
